Back to School Checklist

Everything to prepare before term

Check if your child's PAI is
up-to-date

  • PAI = Projet d’Accueil Individualisé – your child’s individual care plan for school.
  • Check that it is still up to date and reflects your child’s current allergies, treatment and emergency plan.

Ensure allergy training is scheduled

  • Teachers and caregivers should receive allergy and emergency training before or at the start of the school year.
  • Contact the school before the summer break to check that training is planned.
  • Attend the training yourself, if possible — you know your child and their needs best.
  •

Inform other parents

  • Consider sharing a short letter with other parents explaining your child’s allergies and what they can do to help.
  • Many people are not familiar with the seriousness of food allergies – sharing clear information can help build understanding and cooperation.
  • Use our templates to help you draft a simple letter.

Keep the emergency kit up-to-date

  • Make sure your child’s emergency medication kit at school is complete and contains everything specified in their emergency plan.
  • Check the expiry dates of all medication before the start of the school year.
  • Replace any medication that has expired or will expire during the school year.
  • Make sure the kit is easily accessible and that the relevant school staff know where it is kept
